Homeowner 101Our realtor gifted us this book when we bought a fixer upper & it has been invaluable. So when my brother in law got his first house I knew it would be a great housewarming present & resource.

A Classic! This book is a classic! This is the third copy I’ve purchased. It is really one of the most practical books for those who like doing their own work and repairs at home. It covers pretty much all areas (plumbing, electrical, structural work, etc.). Of course, there are many YouTube videos that are very good, but this book it’s really an excellent resource by itself.

Solid adviceBest overall book to get from the Home Depot for projects around the home. The Home Depot puts out other books focusing on various projects but this is the one to really own if you’re going to buy just one. Highly recommended for those of us wannabe Handyman. I also use this book to understand the job before I hire contractors so I know they are not conning me and I know how the job is supposed to be done before they even start. My contractor friend recommended this book to me because the advice is solid in most cases. I highly recommend it.

Great conditionBook was in perfect condition. I have the 1st edition, my son is just buying his 1st house and i wanted him to have book, so i found the last (i think) edition – 3rd. This has been so helpful with many fixes in the house in the 20+ years that i have been using.

Helpful Reference BookWhile the internet and youtube videos are helpful – I find I can spend more time surfing videos than doing the project – this allows me to focus on what I really need to do and I don’t have to wonder about the “source” since we know some stuff online is dead wrong. The hardcover version opens nicely – you don’t have to fight to see things at the inner binding. Another of my books Handyman Do-It-Yourself book is good too – it has better diagrams I think, but the side to side format is a bit irritating. I like having more than one to reference. Most of these are available used so be sure to check both New and Used prices.

Pleasantly surprisedI honestly wasn’t going to buy this boom because I thought it would be very very beginner- like “this is a hammer” beginner. There’s quiet a few things in this book that I Id never attempt until reading it. I have not yet attempted those projects, like fixing siding, but considering what ANY repair in a house cost, its fairly comprehensive and easy to follow. I may be updating this post months from now with explicatives (this is how most of my DIY projects turn out), but I like having an actual book- not weeding through YouTube videos that may/may not be correct and trying to find a website to show me simple things. I do wish there was more on using more complex power tools- tips/tricks, as it would be suitable for this book, and more on carpentry, but it’s still worth 5 stars.

A must have in every homeEvery home will eventually need some touch up even if you live in a rental, this book give you great instructions on how to do that. There are plenty of pictures to go along with the directions so it’s even easier to understand. Of course the book has more to offer than most of us would actually need but it gives you an understanding of how much work it would be if you wanted to do this or that. It also gives you all the basics like safety and protection, terminology, tools explanations, and more. Of course for small repairs, one can just search online for a remedy but I prefer to have it in print while I’m working, plus it gives me a lot more information that sometimes the web doesn’t tell you like safe operation. All in all I HIGHLY recommend having a copy around “just in case”. Think of it as a first-aid manual, because it really is (at least for me).
